My name is William Ellis Johnson. Like many, I started playing guitar sometime in my first decade of life. Then, I studied music throughout high school at Interlochen Arts Academy, studying classical guitar and composition. Afterwards I attended Oberlin Conservatory for my B.M. in Technology in Music and Related Arts. While at Oberlin Sage Jensen and I received a Flint Initiative Grant to further our collaborative work in virtual reality. After graduation my work focused work in and around recording studios both as an assistant engineer and repair technician, and increasingly as a multi-instrumentalist.

In 2018 Anne Malin Ringwalt and I released an album: “Fog Area” which NPR called "unsettling." Our new record "Waiting Song" comes out October 2nd, 2020, which you can listen to on any streaming platform or buy at Bandcamp.

Currently, I'm a freelance musician based in Nashville, TN playing a lot of pedal steel, guitar, bass, mandolin, and fiddle both live and in the studio. I also like working on old tube audio gear and taking photographs.
